About Medicare

Before your 65th birthday or becoming eligible for Medicare A & B due to disability, is the time to start thinking about Medicare. That means understanding what Medicare is, how and when to enroll, and what it does and does not cover. It’s also time to think about the options available that can help protect you from some of the expenses not covered by Medicare. The Medicare health plan that you choose affects many things like cost, benefits, doctor choice, convenience, and quality.

Medicare Annual Election Period

When your enrollment selection has been received will affect when your coverage begins.

Under 65 Annual Election Period (AEP) is October 15th through December 7th each year.

Annual Open Enrollment: October 15th through December 7th each year.

Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP): January 1st – February 14th each year

Medicare Parts A, B, C and D

Medicare Part A covers inpatient care in a hospital or a limited stay in a skilled nursing facility. Part B covers doctors and outpatient hospital services. Medicare Part C is Medicare Advantage programs. Part D covers prescription drugs..

Medicare Supplement Insurance

Optional coverage helps to pay for expenses beyond what is covered by Medicare. There are several Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, each with different benefits and premiums, so you can choose the plan that works best for your specific needs. Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans are identified by the separate letters A, B, C, D, F, F-HD, G, K, L, M and N.2 The basic benefits of each plan are exactly alike for all insurance companies. The plans are not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. Government or Federal Medicare Program.

Medicare Supplement Insurance + Prescription Drug Plan

  • NO NETWORKS, NATIONWIDE COVERAGE, only question to ask a doctor is, “do you take Medicare.”
  • No deductibles, copays or out of pocket expenses for a Supplement.
  • If you go Plan G then you pay the Part B Deductible 1x year.

Medicare Advantage (MAPD) Plans

  • Combines Plan C and Plan D Networks
  • Insurance carrier can accept or deny treatment that requested
  • When you get sick it does take longer to get approval for medical services Deductible, Copays and out of pocket expenses on a calendar year basis

Is Medicare Automatic?

In order to receive Medicare benefits you must be Part A & B eligible for coverage. You must contact Social Security to apply for Part B. Once a person has Part B then they are eligible for Medicare coverage and supplemental insurance.
