Spring is a beautiful time of year—flowers bloom, the sun shines, and… you start sneezing non-stop! If that sounds familiar, you might be one of the 81 million Americans dealing with seasonal allergies (thanks, pollen).
The biggest culprit in spring? Tree pollen! Here in Central Texas…oak trees unleash on us every Spring. From March to May, trees release pollen into the air, triggering sneezing fits, itchy eyes, and stuffy noses. But don’t worry—we’ve got some easy ways to reduce your exposure and enjoy spring without the sniffles:
✅ Check Pollen Counts – Stay informed by checking daily pollen and mold levels online or on the local news. On high-pollen days, try to limit your outdoor time.
✅ Keep Your Indoor Air Clean – Shut windows and doors to keep allergens out and rely on air conditioning instead. Change HEPA filters regularly for fresher indoor air.
✅ Rinse Off Allergens – After spending time outside, shower and change clothes to wash away pollen that may have stuck to your skin and hair.
✅ Clean Up After Pets – If your furry friends go outside, they’re probably bringing pollen indoors. Give them a weekly bath to keep allergens at bay.
✅ Wash Bedding Weekly – Pollen loves to settle on sheets and blankets, so wash your bedding in hot water once a week.
✅ Vacuum Often – Use a HEPA filter vacuum to trap allergens and keep floors pollen-free.
For many, avoiding allergens and using over-the-counter allergy meds do the trick. But if your symptoms persist, talk to your doctor about other treatment options.
